Vietnam sells 1.4 billion pairs of shoes to the world every year
This year, Vietnam's leather and footwear industry has shown positive growth, with export sales exceeding $26 billion, an increase of about 10 percent over last year.
Especially in the field of footwear exports, it still maintains its position as a leading global exporter, exporting approximately 1.4 billion pairs of shoes and sandals annually.
Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Xu, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Leather Footwear and Handbag Association, said that this year, the main export markets such as the United States, the European Union and other major export markets have grown by more than 10 percent.
At the same time, the footwear industry is also actively expanding into new regional markets such as South America and the Middle East. In particular, sports shoes are expected to help the footwear industry penetrate more deeply into the Middle East market, where consumer demand is large and diverse.
However, Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Xu said that the Vietnamese leather and footwear industry would inevitably be affected early on by importers' green standards and sustainability criteria, given its high position in the supply chain.
In order to meet these standards, domestic footwear enterprises are under great pressure. The cost of complying with these standards is becoming a significant burden, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.
In addition, the scarcity of labor and raw materials has added to the difficulties. Dependence on imported technology and competitive pricing pressures have led to many difficulties for firms.
Ms. Hsuan said that the business situation of the leather footwear industry will still face many challenges in 2025. Although orders are relatively stable, competitive pressure and rising production costs will be the main obstacles. To achieve the 10% growth target, companies must strive to improve their competitiveness.
